Upon the use of black and white mana gauges fill up, and these can be used to power up the weaponskills. Red Mage's playstyle depends on the alternation of black magic, white magic, and weaponskills. It starts at level 50, and is not tied to a class. Unlocking Red Mage requires having the Stormblood expansion and having a Disciple of War or Magic level 50.
